Flutist Vytenis Gurstis is active in Lithuania and Europe as a chamber and orchestral musician, soloist and pedagogue. He is a member of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre Orchestra, teacher at the Balys Dvarionas’ school of music and lecturer at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Since 2019 he is also a member of the contemporary music ensemble Synaesthesis.
Vytenis studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with prof. William Bennett. He holds two Master's degrees from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, Germany (solo flute with prof. Robert Winn and contemporary chamber music with prof. David Smeyers) and an Arts Doctorate degree from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
His interests in somatic techniques and practices have led him to broaden his teaching style as well as gave him various resources to employ in performing: in working with extended and non-classical playing techniques and improvisation.
